It was at 4.20 pm on Thursday that the alarm about the tram accident came.
The place was blocked off for a while and traffic was diverted while the work of lifting the cart and getting the man out was in progress.
The tram has been seized for technical inspection.
The police have requested and obtained film from the surveillance camera of the tram in question.
Witness information
The film is expected to confirm information from witnesses that it was an accident.
The fact that there is a criminal classification (causing another person's death and gross negligence in traffic) is to be able to take all necessary investigative measures.
- Hopefully the film from inside the car can also show a little what happens outside the car, so that we get a clearer picture, says Linda Frid.
Unclear cause
Witness information says that the man came to the stop with the tram, only to fall down between carriage one and carriage two shortly afterwards.
Before he could be rescued, the tram started again and drove over him.
- We do not yet know why the man falls between the carriages, says Linda Frid, who is therefore calling for more witnesses.
Latest fatal accident in 2016
The most recent fatal accident in tram traffic in Gothenburg was in 2016, according to Västtrafik.
A man in his 45s died when he was hit by a tram near Ullevi in connection with the Håkan Hellström concerts.
