China News Service, Beijing, August 26 (Reporter Guo Chaokai) In response to Japan’s decision to build a submarine tunnel to discharge nuclear contaminated water, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press conference on the 26th that Japan had previously ignored domestic and foreign questions and opposition. The wrong decision to discharge nuclear contaminated water into the sea has now been compounded by mistakes, and the continuous advancement of relevant policies and technical preparations shows that Japan has no sincerity in addressing the concerns of all parties.

A reporter asked questions. According to reports, the Japanese government and Tokyo Electric Power Company have decided on the 25th to build an undersea tunnel to discharge nuclear polluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant into the ocean.

A South Korean official said that it is deeply regrettable that Japan has unilaterally promoted the nuclear pollution water discharge plan without communicating with South Korea in advance. It is Japan's responsibility to fully negotiate and maintain communication with neighboring countries.

What is China's comment?

"The Chinese side has noticed the reaction of the South Korean side, and we have the same concerns." Wang Wenbin said that the Japanese side had made the wrong decision to discharge nuclear contaminated water in spite of domestic and foreign questions and opposition. Technical preparations show that Japan has absolutely no sincerity in addressing the concerns of all parties.

Wang Wenbin emphasized that China urges Japan to seriously respond to the voices of the international community, neighboring countries, and its own people, immediately revoke wrong decisions, fulfill its due international obligations, and fully negotiate and reach consensus with all stakeholders and relevant international institutions. Do not start the discharge of nuclear contaminated water without authorization.
