On August 26, 2019, 31-year-old Karolin Hakim was shot dead outside her home at Ribersborg in Malmö.

It was ten o'clock in the morning when several people witnessed the brutal murder, where Karolin was shot while holding her little baby in her arms.

The child's father, who escaped the shootings, is believed to be the intended victim.

- Everything in the investigation suggests that it is a commissioned murder and that the target was the man from the beginning, says Lisa Åberg, chamber prosecutor.

No one arrested

During the past two years, a total of four young men have been detained on suspicion of involvement in the murder.

Most recently, it was a 22-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of being the one who shot Karolin.

But in mid-August, after seven months in custody, the man was released.

No one is currently in custody, but several people are still suspects.

What is the prognosis for solving this murder?

- It is difficult to say, I can only state that the evidence right now is not enough for prosecution, says Lisa Åberg.

- But I am positive that it is still a priority investigation by the police.

Hope someone leaves information to the police

The prosecutor hopes that the police will find information from the encrypted chat service Sky Ecc, which was cracked by Dutch, Belgian and French police.

- It is a long-term investigative measure.

But we also have other investigative measures planned, but I can not go into more detail who they are, says Lisa Åberg.

Another hope is that someone with knowledge of the case tells the police what they know.

- My opinion is that even in the criminal world, most people think that this was a disgusting crime that crossed a border, but still no one chooses to tell what they know.

But it could be that one day someone chooses to talk and it is such an event that could affect the state of evidence, says Lisa Åberg.
