This is reported by RBC with reference to a letter on behalf of the Acting Director of the Information Security Department Artem Sychev.

“The Bank of Russia considers it important to hold consultations with financial institutions in order to prevent violation of their operational reliability in the event of blocking foreign VPN services mentioned in the letter in Russia,” a representative of the Central Bank told RBC.

In the text of the document, the Russian regulator asks recipients by September 2 to indicate the VPN services that credit institutions use, the processes for which they are used and the corresponding IP addresses.

Roskomnadzor previously reported that restrictions on the use of VPN services VyprVPN and Opera VPN were introduced starting June 17 in response to threats to bypass restrictions on access to prohibited content.
