Spaniard Fernando Alonso will play well in the 2022 Formula 1 season with the Alpine team, with which he has been racing since this year, the French team announced in a statement Thursday.

"Alpine F1 Team and Fernando Alonso reconfirm their partnership for the 2022 season of the FIA ​​Formula 1 World Championship", it is written, while, last year, his arrival was announced for several seasons, without further details .

In 2022, he will still be associated with Frenchman Esteban Ocon, who extended his contract until 2024 before the summer.

"Fernando has impressed us all since his return earlier this year," after two years out of F1, explains Alpine CEO Laurent Rossi.

“His dedication, hard work and determination to get the best out of the team is incredible to see,” he continues. development and optimization of the chassis and the powertrain for 2022 ", a year of major technical change for single-seaters.

The 40-year-old Spaniard has already raced for Renault, the ancestor of Alpine, between 2003 and 2006 then 2008 and 2009, and won the world title in 2005 and 2006.

Before the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend, he has 323 Grands Prix to his credit, for 32 victories and 97 podiums.

Alonso is currently 11th in the F1 World Championship, with the best result being 4th place at the last GP, in Hungary, on August 1st.
