US President Joe Biden moves to the White House Situation Room to monitor the situation after an explosion near Kabul Airport in Afghanistan on the 26th (local time).

US media including CNN reported that President Biden gathered in the White House Situation Room along with Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Secretary of State Tony Blincoln, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.

President Biden received a report of the attack near Kabul Airport, the White House said.

President Biden was originally scheduled to receive a report on the situation regarding the evacuation operation in Afghanistan and the threat of terrorism from the national security team this morning.

President Biden was scheduled to meet at the White House at 11:30 a.m. with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, but was postponed.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Twitter that he confirmed that the attack had taken place at Avigate, the main entrance to Kabul Airport.

"We can also confirm that there was at least one other explosion at or near the Barron Hotel close to Abbey Gate," Kirby said.

The Barron Hotel is a hotel that Western countries have allowed evacuees to stay, foreign media reported.

A U.S. official told The Associated Press that the complex attack outside Kabul International Airport was believed to have been carried out by the Islamic State (IS) group.

The United States has warned of possible terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

President Biden has also emphasized the threat of terrorism, such as ISIS, in the background of sticking to the deadline for the withdrawal of troops scheduled for the 31st.
