In total, three buses surrounded by a convoy of the police, these are for the moment the only images of the 51 evacuees from Afghanistan who arrived this Wednesday morning in

Uganda

.

The Afghan refugees and some of them of other nationalities were accommodated in a hotel in Entebbe, near the international airport.

Their reception had been under discussion for more than a week between the Ugandan and American authorities.

More planes from Kabul are expected in the coming days.

In total, around 2,000 people are expected to be hosted temporarily in Uganda, before being sent to other countries, including the

United States.

It was also at the request of the American government that the Ugandan authorities agreed to receive these evacuees for a few months.

But at the same time, according to the Foreign Ministry, some

Ugandan nationals still stranded in Afghanistan

have not yet been able to be evacuated due to difficulties in gaining access to Kabul airport.

The ministry said it was organizing to allow them to take the next flight.
