In the finals of the 2019 "Cultural China Water Cube Cup" Overseas Chinese Song Contest, Liu Shenru, a 14-year-old Chinese-American mixed-race girl at the time, sang "I Love You China". The singing voice was gentle and high-pitched, full of affection, and finally won a teenager. Group gold award.

Regardless of her young age, she can sing well and can control a variety of music styles. She can sing bel canto, blues, jazz, and Chinese folk music.

You can also sing famous songs from various countries in seven languages: English, French, German, Italian, Latin, Spanish and Chinese.

Now, 16-year-old Liu Shenru has not relaxed his studies while continuing to pursue his music dreams.

Her dream is to become a cardiologist.

In this issue of "Chinese Youth Talk", Liu Shenru is invited to tell her growth story.

The following is Liu Shenru's narrative:

Music has always been a joy in my life.

I started to learn to sing formally when I was about ten years old. It can be said that music grew up with me.

Also at the age of 10, I ushered in the first performance in my life: singing for the global CEO Christmas party.

At the age of 11, I went to the competition for the first time and competed with people of all ages from Southern California. I won the first place and received $1,500.

This was a lot of money for me at the time, and I was also on the cover of the newspaper.

What impressed me the most was 2019.

It was a self-challenging year for me, because I decided to participate in all the singing competitions I knew.

That year, I won 14 championships.

The "Water Cube" Chinese Song Contest is one of them.

In 2019, I am in the eighth grade.

My school is a traditional school with strict management and heavy schoolwork.

I remember that the time of the competition was very close to the final exam, so I had to go all out for the exam first.

After the exam, I only have four weeks left to participate in the "Water Cube" to learn Chinese songs, and at the same time prepare for the 23rd World Art Competition.

For this competition, my mother helped me choose five songs: "I Love You China", "Nine Children", "How Beautiful is Pamir My Hometown", "Left Finger Moon" and "Spring Ballet".

At that time, I could only sing the song "I Love You China", and I hadn't even listened to the other songs, let alone rap.

I didn't know Chinese characters, so I marked them with pinyin. For this reason, I took eight Chinese song lessons.

Every morning and evening, my mother taught me to read the lyrics word by word, tell me the meaning of the lyrics, and help me understand the emotions conveyed by the song.

Immediately after that, I devoted myself to the World Art Competition.

After nine days of competition, I achieved three golds and one silver.

Apart from the competition, I have been hiding in the hotel room to practice Chinese songs.

The hotel I stayed in is right by the sea, but I am so busy with the sea that I have never been to it once.

I didn't even attend the awards ceremony on the last day.

On the afternoon of the end of the World Art Competition, I went to participate in the audition for the "Voice of China" North American Division.

In the evening, I boarded the flight to Beijing without even returning home.

Nevertheless, I arrived a few days later than the other teammates.

For the "Water Cube Cup", I had to give up the rematch of "The Voice of China".

I put all my energy into the "Water Cube" competition.

I competed with more than 80 players from all over the world, and entered the championship battle through three stages.

I want to win too much.

I was standing on the stage of the final with my legs shaking with tension.

When I heard that the champion was my name, I, who did not understand Chinese, went forward and the host repeatedly confirmed "Is the first one?"

When I got the affirmative answer, my tears couldn't be restrained anymore, and it came out of my eyes.

To be able to win the championship in my hometown, I was particularly moved.

I have always had special feelings for China.

My mother is Chinese.

Since I was young, my mother told me that my hometown is in China, China has my grandma, uncle, uncle and aunt, and my roots are in China.

I eat authentic Chinese food and live all kinds of festivals in China.

Beijing’s roast duck, pancakes and candied haws are my favorites.

I have been on the Great Wall twice and sang "I Love You China", but now I think about it and I am still excited.

Chinese culture is an important part of my life.

Although it may be strange to hear my dad speak English and my mother speak Chinese, this dual culture allows me to understand the importance of culture and how it shapes our identity and how it affects the choices we make.

Singing is deeper than it appears on the surface.

Music is a bridge, and people with language or cultural differences can communicate and understand each other's thoughts through singing.

For me, music brings me support and strength, and it brings me, my family and my loved ones closer together.

I never care about how much time I spend practicing, because I practice every day.

This is not a burden, but a kind of enjoyment.

Every weekend, I either participate in competitions or be invited to perform. Sometimes I have to run three different venues a day to perform.

If you want to say that performance has taught me anything, it is that no matter where you go, no matter how big or small the stage is, every performance must be treated as seriously as the last performance.

All my classmates know that I go out to participate in competitions, including the school board.

People have different attitudes towards me, but I don’t want to receive extra attention.

I didn't come to school to show off or brag, it is a place to learn, so I will respect this place.

Between singing and school work, balance is the key.

In order to ensure that the full A results and the performance are correct, I paid a lot.

Time management is essential to ensure that I achieve my daily goals and pursue a secure future.

My dream is to be a doctor.

In the cardiology course of the seventh grade, I was deeply attracted by the charm of medicine. After that, my goal was to become a cardiologist.

However, I will definitely not give up music, I believe I have the ability to take care of my dreams and hobbies.
