24 August 2021 The suspension of the Tunisian Parliament, decided on 25 July by President Kais Saied, will be extended indefinitely: "until further notice" writes the country's presidency. Likewise, in addition to Parliament, the suspension of the immunity of parliamentarians is also extended. Saied had sacked his prime minister, frozen parliament and suspended parliamentary immunities following strong anti-government protests that took place in the country's streets. Saied has since assumed the leadership of the executive power with the collaboration of a new prime minister. The presidency announced in a statement that the president will speak to the nation in the coming days, without giving further details.
