It was the British Prime Minister who opened and closed today the video-summit of the G7 leaders (for Italy, Mario Draghi) on the Afghan dossier, convened in extraordinary format after the capture of Kabul by of the Taliban following the withdrawal of the contingent residuals of the NATO countries.

In the middle Johnson gave the floor to various colleagues, up to the most anticipated speech, that of the American president Joe Biden, which lasted no more than 7 minutes.

At the center of the discussion, the coordination of the evacuations of foreigners and part of the Afghans considered most in danger (former collaborators of the NATO mission in primis) by 31 August, as well as the question of diplomatic measures to be taken to promote the protection of civilians and their rights in the country and that of access to humanitarian aid.

On the other hand, the hypothesis of a postponement of the withdrawal of the soldiers in charge of carrying out the evacuation operations from Kabul airport beyond the end-of-month deadline already agreed at the time by Washington with the Taliban seems out of reach: deadline that Johnson , closely followed by French President Emmanuel Macron and the EU leaders had suggested extending, but which Biden confirmed.

What the Taliban say to the leaders

They will not allow the Afghans to leave. Access to the airport for foreign nationals only. Women at home "for now". Here are some of the main points addressed during the press conference by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid as the tension rises over the crisis in the country and the countdown is on until August 31, with Afghan citizens ready to flee, herded at the Kabul airport. And the leaders of the G7 who are meeting just today hypothesizing an extension that the Taliban obviously do not like. They want all foreign citizens to be evacuated by the August 31 deadline, adding that "they are not in favor" of allowing Afghans to start.US allies have already warned that they will not be able to evacuate all those fleeing the Taliban by August 31. The warning comes as US President Joe Biden at a G7 summit proposes to delay the withdrawal of US forces beyond that date. Zabihullah Mujahid urges Afghan citizens to return home and asks the US not to encourage them to leave the country . He suggests that women will not be permanently prevented from going to work, saying authorities are trying to work out a procedure so they can return and arguing that they have not been removed or fired from their jobs and that their salaries will be paid. However, it is better to abstain for safety reasons to "prevent any mistreatment".Furthermore, according to the spokesman, the foreign embassies have been reassured of their safety, they are urged not to close or interrupt the work. Schools, universities and madrassas, as well as hospitals, local government and television and radio stations are operational again, according to the Taliban.
