After the symptoms of poisoning in at least seven people at the Technical University of Darmstadt, the public prosecutor's office is investigating attempted murder.

"As part of the investigation, specialists from the Hessian State Criminal Police Office were able to detect substances, including in foodstuffs seized by the police at the scene of the crime, the intake of which could have led to the symptoms experienced by the injured party," said the Darmstadt police.

You have formed a 40-person homicide commission called "Light".

As it is also said, no other victims with the corresponding symptoms or signs of intoxication have reported to the investigators.

There is also no acute risk.

The university previously spoke of a suspected poison attack.

"We are shocked by the obvious crime that has occurred at our university," said the president of the university, Tanja Brühl, on Tuesday.

The seven victims had to be treated because of severe symptoms of poisoning;

one person was even at times in mortal danger.

The doctors were able to stabilize the condition in the evening, as the police headquarters in South Hesse announced.

Another person was able to leave the hospital again.

Substance in milk and water containers?

"I will contact you personally as soon as possible, provided your condition allows it," said Brühl. As the police headquarters in South Hesse announced, the symptoms occurred in the TU building "L201" on Alarich-Weiß-Straße. It is believed that a noxious substance was present in several milk cartons and water containers. Laboratory analyzes should show which substance is involved. According to the current status, the containers were mixed with the substance between Friday and Monday. "The pungent smell of the liquids concerned" is particularly noticeable.

Rescue workers searched all rooms of the building in which the materials science department is housed for food and beverages until the early hours of Tuesday. Numerous samples were taken for laboratory tests. The police and the TU Presidium advise not to eat or drink any food or drink that was stored in rooms on the Lichtwiese campus during the alleged crime period. Anyone who drank or ate something on Monday in building L201 and feels uncomfortable or whose extremities are now bluish should seek medical help immediately. In the event of discoloration, one should not move as much as possible and call the emergency doctor immediately. In the evening, people in Hesse who had eaten at the TU Darmstadt were also warned via the Katwarn app.

According to the police, several people with symptoms of intoxication such as malaise and discoloration were brought to clinics on Monday. The investigators initially focused on a “kind of tea kitchen” in which items would also be stored - for example in a refrigerator. These rooms are freely accessible.
