Normally, Dalarna University has between 300-350 new foreign students every autumn.

Some come through the Erasmus exchange program and some are international students who apply directly to the university.

- Last autumn it was a big loss, says Michael Oppenheimer who is development manager at Dalarna University.

"We see an increase"

In total, the number of exchange students and international students decreased by about 30 percent last year.

But now Dalarna University is returning to similar levels as before the pandemic.

- We see an increase in the international students and we notice that more and more people are interested in coming to us and studying.

It is above all the technical educations that attract, for example solar energy and data analysis, says Michael Oppenheimer.

Poorer economy during the pandemic

At the same time, many students do not succeed in getting to Sweden and Dalarna.

- The people simply do not have the financial conditions to come here.

Now during the corona, more people have also had to cancel because the scholarships have not always been enough and the families have had poorer financial conditions.

At the same time, there have also been problems with visas and embassy times.
