Bloody attack on Kabul airport

An Afghan security official was killed when members of the Afghan security forces and soldiers from Germany and the United States clashed with attackers at the northern gate of Kabul Airport.

Three Afghans were wounded in Monday's attack, the German military said on Twitter.

The injured were treated by Norwegian paramedics at the airport complex.

There are two gates at the northern entrance to Kabul Airport.

Soldiers from the Afghan army protect the outer gate, while US forces protect the inner gate.

It is not yet clear who carried out the attack, but the US government had expressed yesterday its concern about the possibility of an attack by the terrorist organization "ISIS" on or near the airport.

The Taliban had warned earlier of the "consequences" if the completion of the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan was postponed until after August 31.

"This date is a red line. If the United States or the United Kingdom ask for more time to continue the evacuations, the answer will be no. Otherwise, there will be consequences," said the movement's spokesman, Suhail Shaheen, in an interview with the British "Sky News" network.
