The resumption of the sale of alcohol in Economy class of American Airlines planes was to resume on September 13, it was finally postponed.

Passengers affected by this measure will therefore not be able to drink alcohol during their flight before January 18, 2022, reports CNN.

Faced with the growing number of cases of Covid-19 in the United States due to the spread of the Delta variant, the American company had suspended the sale of alcohol for the main cabin for several weeks.

The goal: to minimize interactions between the crew and passengers.

"We are doing everything possible to help create a safe environment for our crew and our customers on board our planes," American Airlines said Thursday in a note to employees.

Numerous incidents during thefts

Temporarily stopping the sale of alcohol during flights may also lower the number of incidents.

Last week, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it had received nearly 3,900 incident reports, for which it opened 682 investigations.

Two thirds of the incidents listed concern passengers who refused to wear their masks.

Other passengers are accused of violence against the staff on board or of having illegally consumed alcohol brought on board.
