Last July, a family from New Jersey (United States) won $ 2 million, or 1.7 million euros, in the Powerball lottery, reports CNN relayed by

The parents had purchased the ticket as they returned with their three children from their vacation in North Carolina.

Between the two states, they had decided to make a stop in Germantown, Maryland, to take a break before getting back in the car.

In addition to going to the bathroom and buying a snack for the road, both parents also bought tickets for the Cash4Life, Mega Millions and Powerball lotteries at this stop.

When they got home, the whole family were surprised to find that the first five numbers of the Powerball draw matched their ticket.

Only the “Powerball” number was missing from the family to win the jackpot.

The incredulous couple

"I couldn't believe all the numbers matched except the Powerball," the mother told CNN.

"I had to download the [mobile] application to be able to scan the ticket to be sure," she said.

His disbelief was also shared by the father.

“It's amazing that we missed just one number,” he said.

The family will use this money to pay off their debts.

The rest of the money will be added to their savings, perhaps to pay for next year's vacation.
