While the ROK-U.S. joint exercise was in progress, the chief representative of North Korea and the United States held a face-to-face meeting in Seoul to discuss ways to resume dialogue with North Korea.



Kyu-duk Noh, head of the Korean Peninsula Peace Relations Headquarters, and Seong Kim, special representative for North Korea, visiting South Korea, met at The Plaza Hotel in Jung-gu, Seoul on the morning of the 23rd to evaluate the current situation on the Korean Peninsula and discuss pending issues with North Korea.



"This is an important moment for the Korean Peninsula," Kim said in his remarks, saying that his visit to South Korea was "a testament to the Biden administration's determination to maintain the closest cooperation with South Korea on all pending North Korea issues."



Director Noh Gyu-deok also said, "The discussion today is held at a very important time.



In today's consultation, the two countries are expected to evaluate the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea's opposition to the ROK-U.S. joint exercise, which will be held until the 26th, and discuss ways to resume dialogue with North Korea.



After the ROK-U.S. talks today, the North Korean nuclear talks will be held between President Kim and External Vice Minister Igor Morgulov, Russia's chief nuclear representative.



Representative Kim and Vice Minister Morgulov came to Korea two days ago.
