23 August 2021 On the "central Mediterranean route", the one that leads from Libya to Italy, 392 have been drowned since the beginning of the year and 632 have been missing, therefore a total of 1,024, as calculated by a bulletin updated on 21 August and published today on Twitter from the Libyan branch of the International Organization for Migration.



The IOM recalls that in the whole of last year 381 confirmed deaths and 597 people disappeared at sea, therefore 978 in all.



To have been brought back by the Libyan Coast Guard this year were 22,419 migrants, including 1,530 women and 803 minors, compared to 11,891 people in the whole of 2020, it still emerges from the graphics.



In the week from 15 to 21 August alone, the "rescued or intercepted" amounted to 374, the IOM underlines in the tweet.



In the period of 15-21 August, 374 migrants were rescued / intercepted at sea and returned to Libya.
