In Indonesia, where the infection of the new coronavirus spread rapidly last month, the number of new infections per day fell below 10,000 for the first time in about two months, and the number of infected people is declining.

From the 24th, restrictions on economic activities will be relaxed, such as allowing in-store operations of restaurants in the capital Jakarta.

In Indonesia, the spread of the highly infectious mutant virus "Delta strain" caused the number of infected people per day to exceed 50,000 last month, putting the medical system in a critical situation.

While strict restrictions are being taken on Java Island, where the capital Jakarta is located, and Bali, a major tourist destination, the number of infected people has been declining since the middle of this month, and on the 23rd, a new infection was confirmed. The number was 9,604, which was less than 10,000 for the first time in about two months.

The death toll was 842, falling below 1,000 for the first time in about a month.

For this reason, President Joko Widodo announced on the night of the 23rd that he would lower the alert level, which was the highest among the four levels, by one level and relax the restrictions in the capital Jakarta and the second city of Surabaya.

In response to the announcement, from the 24th, in-store operations of restaurants will be permitted after limiting the number of people in the target area, and the activities of export-related companies in key industries will be fully permitted.

On the other hand, the government continues to call on the people to take thorough infection control measures, saying that infection may start to increase again in the future.
