RS virus is a cold virus that can affect anyone, but for children under the age of two, it can have serious consequences because it is difficult to breathe through the nose when you are ill.

- The vast majority get cold symptoms.

If you are a small baby, you are dependent on being able to breathe through your nose, so runny nose can sound banal, but it can be very difficult if you are an infant, says pediatrician Maria Ekelund.

Unusual for the virus to spread in the summer

Normally, the virus spreads during the winter months, but in recent weeks, health care in the county has received several cases.

- We have received five cases of RS virus and it may not sound like much.

But if there are five cases that are so serious that they need to seek hospital care, there are probably several cases with mild symptoms in the community that we do not know about, she says.

Why is the number of cases increasing now?

- We can not really know.

But you probably meet a little more now than you did during the corona pandemic, so I think it is the increased social contact, says Maria Ekelund.

In the clip, she tells how parents should think if their children are affected.
