Senegal officially launched the Orsec plan to deal with the floods affecting certain areas in the suburbs of Dakar and in the interior of the country.

This Sunday, August 22, the Minister of the Interior visited the places affected by heavy rainfall noted at the end of the week.

A visit that took place far from the demonstrations of populations tired of reliving these floods.

Demonstrations dispersed by the police.

Faced with the emergency, the Minister of the Interior announces the provision of a first batch of equipment to help release water in the most affected areas.

Minister Antoine Félix Abdoulaye Diome lists the battery of measures taken immediately:

The first means have started to be mobilized, on the instruction of the President of the Republic, Macky Sall.

This consisted in deploying on the ground some fifty hydrocureurs, but this is only the beginning, as well as 150 motor-pumps.

 "

After triggering the Disaster Relief Organization plan (Orsec), the Senegalese authorities have been working since this weekend to rapidly implement operations.

This first requires a comprehensive emergency assessment.

"

In everything, and especially when it is so planned, it is necessary to evaluate, assess and take the appropriate measures

 ", concludes the Minister.

After a meeting with the services concerned, the Minister of the Interior made a field visit to inquire about the start of operations.

Visit taken advantage of by young people from the suburbs to show their discontent against the authorities.
