- We actually had 20 candidates who were willing to stand and who thought this would be very fun.

Unfortunately, they can not do it now, says André af Geijerstam (SD), the party's group leader in the municipal council in Sjöbo.

The Sweden Democrats can not answer how it comes about that the party has not registered the candidates.

An investigation has been launched to find out what happened, according to af Geijerstam.

Sjöbo is not the only parish where SD stands without candidates for the church election.

The party has also failed to send in candidate lists for Lund's pastorate and Värby parish in Svedala municipality, according to Lund diocese.

Affects 52,000 Scanians

In total, almost 52,000 people from Skåne who are eligible to vote cannot vote for the Sweden Democrats in the church council in these parishes.

In the church election, it is not possible to write by hand on ballot papers, unlike elections to municipalities and the Riksdag.

Most parties have local representatives who will arrange for the candidate lists to be sent to the church election.

The Sweden Democrats have centralized the task of handling registration.

The party has only one representative and one deputy who will handle the registration for the whole country.

When SVT Nyheter asks questions to the agent about what went wrong, we get no explanation.

Ystads Allehanda has previously written that the Sweden Democrats failed to submit candidate lists.
