Anna Nordqvist crowned in extremis at Carnoustie.

The Swede, 54th in the world, won the women's British Open golf course on Sunday, taking advantage of a decisive error by her rival Nanna Koerstz Madsen on the last hole.

Already titled in 2009 at the LPGA Championship and in 2017 in Evian, Nordqvist won at 34 the third major title of his career.

"I've been waiting for this for a long time, the last few years have been hard," said the Swede, happy to win in Scotland where her husband is from.

"I couldn't ask for better than a victory at the Carnoustie Women's Open. This place is really special," she added.

"The supporters have been great and my caddy is Scottish too. Both motivated me. It's so good to have a crowd again this year," said Nordqvist.

With a card of 69 for the final round on Sunday, she finished 12 strokes under par, one short of Georgia Hall, Madelene Sagstrom and Lizette Salas.

Very good omen, two weeks before the Solheim Cup, women's equivalent of the Ryder Cup, in Toledo (United States), where Nordqvist should be part of the European team for the seventh time.

The Swede had started the day tied with Nanna Koerstz Madsen, and it would have been enough for the Dane to make a par on the 18th hole to secure the victory.

But her second shot ended up in a bunker, and she finished the hole with a double-bogey.

With a card of 71 on Sunday and 10 strokes under par over all four laps, Koerstz Madsen finished tied for 5th with Australian Minjee Lee, recently crowned at Evian.
