Mired in the Tigray War for almost ten months, Ethiopia refuses to negotiate a ceasefire.

The Western partners, for their part, want to establish negotiations between the Tigrayan rebels and Addis Ababa, while the conflict now spills over into two neighboring provinces.

A failure so far.

And the visit of the US special envoy to the Ethiopian capital does not seem to have changed the situation.

A week after his arrival, Jeffrey Feltman leaves empty-handed or almost.

The US special envoy for the Horn of Africa has met twice with the Ethiopian foreign minister.

According to a diplomatic source, he would have finally obtained an interview with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

However, neither the Ethiopian government nor Washington have confirmed.

Cooled relationships

A predictable failure judging the relations between the two former allies.

Reports have notably cooled since last May and the imposition of US sanctions against Addis Ababa.

Since then, numerous protests have taken place in the Ethiopian capital to oppose what the government calls US interference in its internal affairs.
