The story of a 99-year-old grandmother and a 2-year-old child who built a special friendship during a difficult time due to COVID-19 is warming the hearts of netizens.

On the 28th of last month in local time, foreign media such as the Washington Post introduced the special friendship between 99-year-old Mary O'Neill, who lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA and two-year-old Benjamin Olsen.

O'Neill has been living alone since the death of her husband 37 years ago. I have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, but they all live in different states, and the shutdown (lockdown) was issued in May of last year, and communication with my family was cut off.

To relieve his loneliness and frustration, O'Neill spent time walking in his backyard.

The backyard was separated from the house next door by a single slender wire mesh fence.

O'Neill waved goodbye whenever he saw a child over the fence, and he quickly became close to him.

It was Benjamin, who was living next door, with the little boy we got to know each other about.

When Benjamin was only one year old, the COVID-19 virus began to spread. Having never had a chance to see his peers, Benjamin spent every day playing alone in his backyard.

O'Neill and Benjamin became good friends over the fence, able to soothe each other's loneliness.

Benjamin threw a ball and O'Neill hit it with his wand and enjoyed the 'stick ball' game.

Olsen and Benjamin, who had been friends over a fence, were recently reported to have been actively communicating with each other as Olsen and Benjamin's parents were vaccinated.

O'Neill, who is about to turn 100, said, "I don't feel like I'm going to be 100," and "My heart is still like a two-year-old child."

Netizens showed warm reactions such as "It's a really beautiful story" and "I think I'm going to cry because of the friendship between Mr. O'Neill and Benjamin".

This is a 'news pick'.
