Since SMHI began its measurements in the 19th century, only five occasions have measured higher precipitation than the 161.6 millimeters that hit Gävle during the night towards Wednesday.

In first place is Fagerheden in Norrbotten on July 27, 1997, where a full 198.0 millimeters fell.

When it comes to SMHI's list of maximum precipitation in two hours, the rain that fell over Gävle takes first place with a bang.

The closest to Gävle's 101 millimeters is Hanö, which in 2002 measured 79.2 millimeters.

- It is the strongest we have noticed in such a short time, says Moa Hallberg, meteorologist at SMHI.
