21 August 2021 The Minister of Justice Marta Cartabia signed the request for the provisional arrest and extradition of three former Chilean soldiers, sentenced in Italy to life imprisonment, as part of the Condor trial, for the kidnapping and murder of two citizens Italians in the years of military dictatorships in South America.

The three are former members of the Chilean army: they are Francisco Ahumada Valderrama (the one who shot Salvador Allende's collaborators), Manuel Vásquez Chahuan and Orlando Moreno Básquez.

The three were sentenced to life imprisonment on appeal on July 8, 2019 in Rome and, having not appealed to the Supreme Court, their sentences have become final. The request of Minister Cartabia was forwarded to the Italian embassy in Santiago de Chile.
