A 29-year-old student at La Sorbonne, Ahmad had decided to return to Afghanistan a month ago to help his family face the progression of the Taliban in the country.

The latter, having come to power, target people who, like him, have helped the government and the Americans.

He testifies to his increasingly difficult daily life on Europe 1.

TESTIMONY

The images have been circulating for a few days: thousands of people have gathered at Kabul airport, packed into cargo planes, with one idea in mind, to flee the country.

Among them is Ahmad, 29 years old.

This young man studied in Paris and continued his studies at La Sorbonne at the start of the school year.

Faced with the advance of the Taliban, he decided to return to Afghanistan last month to bring his family to safety.

But now, it is impossible for him to return to France.

"I can't take any risks for my family"

Every day, as part of the population expresses their anger, Ahmad goes to the airport in the hope of reaching the boarding gates.

Before his studies in France, the young man worked in a military base for the Afghan government, so he is afraid of being a target of the Taliban.

"The Taliban, they specifically kill people like me who have worked with the government and the Americans, for example," he explains.

"Last week they killed 200 people in a city in Afghanistan. These people were people who work with the government and with the Americans. They killed them with their families."

For this student, today it is a question of escaping the Taliban, who settled in the Afghan capital.

"I cannot take any risks for my parents and I am stuck. At the moment I am in hiding. I live in another house, in another district of Kabul."

A "catastrophic" situation on the spot

At the same time, Ahmad is still trying to flee the country, plagued by a power that advocates Islamic fundamentalism.

“I've been to the airport twice,” he tells Europe 1. “I tried to get in, but it's impossible. There are the Taliban and American forces there. more than 10,000 people waiting to return. The situation, for me, is catastrophic here, "he summarizes, worried for the next few days.
