20 August 2021 Irina, the 45-year-old Romanian woman arrested yesterday by the carabinieri in Grammichele on charges of neglect of an aggravated minor in the context of the suspicious death of her paraplegic 14-year-old son, made use of the right not to answer several days ago.

Defense by the lawyer Andrea Scollo, who since yesterday has been in fiduciary isolation within the women's section of the Piazza Lanza prison, according to a strict Covid protocol, has decided on the advice of the lawyer not to answer the questions of the judge of the preliminary investigations Giuseppe Tigano, also present was the public prosecutor of the court of Caltagirone Samuela Maria Lo Martire who decided on the arrest of the woman's crime suspect.

The measure had arisen from the interrogation of Irina: to the carabinieri who had discovered the lifeless body of her son with a serious handicap, she had provided a version of the facts discordant from reality, falling into contradiction several times.

It was then the findings of the coroner Rosario Polito who discovered conspicuous burns on the boy's lifeless body to hypothesize the woman's responsibilities to the point of triggering the Romanian woman's arrest. A woman who in the past had already been reported for the same crime - abandonment of a minor - in concurrence with her husband who died years ago.

The decision of the investigating judge whether to confirm the arrest and turn it into arrest and the possible issue of a precautionary order is awaited for the next few hours.
