Frenchman Benoît Paire was eliminated in the Cincinnati Masters 1000 quarter-final on Friday by Russian Andrey Rublev 6-2, 3-6, 6-3.

Broken from the first game, then a second time after two double faults in the seventh, Paire very quickly conceded the first round.

He then found the loophole in the Russian's serve to remove the second but ultimately lost in the third set, a time undecided.

The native of Avignon, 50th player in the world, played a quarter-final in a Masters 1000 for the first time since Rome in 2013, thanks to his victory Thursday against the American John Isner.

He had already fallen in the quarter-finals of the tournaments in Hamburg and then Gstaad in July.

Rublev, 7th player in the world and seeded N.4, will face in the semi-final the winner of the quarter between his compatriot Daniil Medvedev and the Spaniard Pablo Carreno.

In the other part of the table, the quarter-finals oppose on Friday the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas to the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime and the Norwegian Casper Ruud to the German Alexander Zverev.
