The US competition authority, the FTC, has filed a new case against Mark Zukerberg's group, accusing the social media giant of abuse of dominance.

His first attempt was rejected by a judge last June, but this time around, the FTC is giving more details on how Facebook is trying to outcompete the competition.

During the

first complaint

, the federal judge in Washington had estimated that it lacked "

concrete on the real power of Facebook

".

He had given the regulator 30 days to put forward new arguments.

This time around, the FTC goes back to the early 2010s when the mobile internet market emerged.

Facebook then lacked the skills to stand out on these new media, believes the regulator.

The social media giant illegally bought out those who could overshadow it, in this case the Instagram application in 2012 and WhatsApp messaging in 2014, which were starting to become serious competitors.

Hence a dominant position today.

Previous complaints deemed too atrocious

The action of US regulators was started in December by the FTC and prosecutors in 48 states and territories.

The judge also rejected the complaints of the coalition of states, explaining that they were far too late compared to the

takeovers

of Instagram and WhatsApp.

A calendar gives until October 4 to Facebook to thwart this new complaint.

The internet giant has so far said it is considering this amendment in detail.
