On Thursday, SVT Norrbotten reported that expectant mothers in Kiruna and Gällivare were forced to travel to Luleå or Piteå to do ultrasounds.

If you live in Kiruna and get an appointment in Piteå, it will be a drive of around 80 km round trip.

The reason why the women were forced to make these long journeys is that the planning collapsed after one person resigned and another became ill, according to Iris Mukkavaara, temporary operations manager and county director of obstetrics and gynecology.

The Norrbotten region uses staffing companies

But now it looks like there is a solution for the autumn.

- We will bring in outside help, ie hired staff, to cope with the autumn and winter, but also staff via so-called rotation from Luleå and Piteå, says Iris Mukkavaara, temporary operations manager and county manager for obstetrics and gynecology.

At present, there is no permanent employee who can perform ultrasound in the Ore Fields.

The solution has for several years been that personnel from the coast have commuted to the Ore Fields.

Hear Iris Mukkavaara tell more about the solution and how they want to solve the problem in the future.
