On August 19, local time, UN Secretary-General Guterres made the latest comments on the situation in Afghanistan when meeting with reporters.

Guterres said he was ready to talk directly with the Taliban leaders.

Guterres stated that he wanted to tell the Afghan people that the United Nations has always been with the Afghan people.

The United Nations will stay in Afghanistan and work for the security, stability and rights of all.

In an interview, Guterres said that although he currently has no direct dialogue with the Taliban, UN personnel in Afghanistan have close communication with the Taliban.

He is ready to have a direct dialogue with the Taliban leader, but he needs to be clear about whom he will talk to and the purpose of the dialogue.
