When the experienced runner Julia Johansson reacted to the fact that wheelchair users were forbidden to participate in the Gothenburg lap, the organization backed away immediately.
Now they will review whether there may be an opportunity for wheelchair users to participate next year.
- If there are opportunities, we will of course make sure to arrange it, says Martin Bergman.
Old decision
Martin Bergman is relatively new to his position as CEO at Göteborgsvarvet and has difficulty answering why the decision was once made.
But it must be about the safety of those who participate, that it is a hilly track, that no one should be hit or that the wheels get stuck in tram tracks.
Stockholm Marathon does not ban wheelchairs
SVT Nyheter Väst has been in contact with the Stockholm Marathon, which allows wheelchairs to participate and which has never seen it as a problem.
- We have also heard it and we have had discussions with other big races, says Martin Bergman.
