At the beginning of the summer, we told about the problems with the rubbish heap in Trelleborg that annoyed many municipal residents.

The company behind the business had gone bankrupt and a new company with a goalkeeper in Värmland had taken over.

It made up for it for the municipality.

But during the summer, small steps have still been taken towards a solution.

- The most important thing is that we have decided on a ban on the import of new waste, says Tobias Henriksson, environmental inspector in Trelleborg.

- Since rubbish was not taken out to the same extent as new ones came, we informed the company that if they wanted to continue, a permit was required for a landfill.

Stopped growing

So now the mountain has stopped growing.

There are between 3,000 and 4,000 tons of garbage in the giant pile.

And it may be that it decreases.

In conversations with the municipality, the property owner - who is not the one who runs the business - has said that he can imagine starting to transport away rubbish, even though he has no obligation to do so.

So right now the municipality is waiting.

No hazardous waste

Tobias Henriksson emphasizes that the rubbish heap does not contain anything environmentally hazardous, but consists of combustible demolition waste.

Otherwise, the municipality would have pushed in a different way.

- What will happen is in the future.

This is something that politicians must decide on, he says.
