More numerous in the air.

The month of July saw a record of traffic at Paris airports, with its highest level since the start of the health crisis in France.

They were 5.1 million passengers last month to use the airports of Roissy and Orly.

A figure to put into perspective: this represents less than half of the volumes of July 2019. But this improvement reflects an increase of 2.6 million compared to July 2020, according to Groupe ADP, facility manager.

“This is the strongest monthly traffic since March 2020” when France confined itself and global air traffic froze, observes ADP.

But it still only represents 48% of the traffic in July 2019, the reference year before the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under the effect of departures on vacation, the implementation of health certificates in Europe and progress in vaccination, it marks an improvement compared to June, when 28.8% of passengers in 2019 had passed through the Parisian facilities. .

Groupe ADP traffic is down 8.6% compared to 2020

Roissy remains penalized by travel restrictions, particularly to Asia and North America. In July, its traffic reached 3.1 million passengers, or 41.1% of that of 2019. Specializing in domestic and overseas routes, Orly received 2 million passengers, or 64.6% of traffic. July 2019. At the level of Groupe ADP, which manages around 20 airports around the world, from Amman to Santiago de Chile, July traffic was close to half that of the same month of 2019 (49, 7%), much better than in June (32.3%).

Since the start of the year, due to a difficult first quarter, with new confinements or travel restrictions, “Groupe ADP's traffic is down 8.6% compared to 2020, to 66.6 million passengers, or 33.2% of the level of group traffic over the same period in 2019, ”said the company, in which the French State is the majority shareholder.

The first figures for August seem encouraging in Europe, according to the European monitoring body Eurocontrol, which observed between August 9 and August 15 air traffic representing 70.5% of the same period of 2019.

London Heathrow Airport also had its best month since the start of the pandemic in July.
