“Washington Post”: Human remains were found on the wheel of a military plane coming from Kabul

The "Washington Post" newspaper reported that human remains were found in the wheel of a US military plane after landing in one of the countries coming from Kabul.

Three sources familiar with the matter said that human remains were found in the wheel of a US Air Force C-17 plane that took off from Kabul airport on Monday.

The flight crew declared an emergency during takeoff from the Afghan capital airport, after the landing gear was obstructed, and human remains were later found in it.

Two officials, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the discovery came after the plane was diverted to another location and landed there.

It was not immediately clear if the plane in question was the same one that was filmed in widely circulated videos that appear to show two people falling from a C-17 as it left the airport.

On Monday, a fourth official said he believed people had "undoubtedly" fallen from the plane and that the video was authentic.

Thousands of civilians desperate to flee Afghanistan gathered at Kabul airport on Sunday and Monday after the Taliban took control of the city, prompting the US military to suspend evacuations.

Crowds flocked to the airport, including some who got attached to a US military transport plane as it walked on the runway.
