People who have such a great need for care that the home care service is not enough often find it difficult to stay at home.

But after the move, housing costs can be up to 160 percent higher, shows Hem & Hyra's review.

- When you get old and sick, you are forced to move to a special accommodation, you have no choice, says Marcus Derland, the journalist behind the review.

To be able to move to a special accommodation, you line up at your municipality.

Then you are placed, move in and have to accept the rent that has been set.

Large cost differences between municipalities

Special housing is a collective name for care and nursing homes, dementia homes and old people's homes.

The person who moves in often gets a small room with a disabled toilet, a bed and - if you are lucky - a kitchenette.

Costs for food and care are added to the rent.

In all but two municipalities, it is more expensive to live in a special accommodation than in a normal rental apartment, the review shows.

The differences between the municipalities are also large.

- Why should it be more expensive to live in a separate home in Pajala than in Gällivare or any other municipality, Marcus Derland wonders and continues:

- It's a matter of justice.

Should you need to look at which municipality you should live in before you get old and sick so that it does not become too expensive then when it happens?

"No one stands up for this group"

In tenant matters, it is traditionally the tenants' association that represents the residents.

However, those who are guests in special accommodation are often not members of the association, which has led to negotiations on rents may not have taken place.

- There is no one who stands up for this group, says Derland.

Seeing your spouse move away from the common home can be emotionally stressful, and many of those Marcus Derland has spoken to have simply not been able to fight the rent dispute.

The majority of those he contacted did not want to be in the report.

- It is a difficult situation, to talk about economics and poverty.
