The unrest in the streets of Kabul is felt after the Taliban took power.

An Afghan journalist that SVT Nyheter spoke to says that the young people you usually see in the city, those who wear jeans and have modern hairstyles, have now disappeared from the streets.

People have changed their behavior, their dress or they do not go out at all.

- The situation in Kabul today is different compared to the last two days.

People are afraid of being noticed by the Taliban.

Fear is there, anxiety is there, people do not behave normally.

Swap shawls for burkas

Many are worried that women and girls will be hit hard by the Taliban's takeover.

SVT's correspondent Samir Abu Eid has met women in Kabul who now feel compelled to change shawls for burkas.

- What one is worried about is that it will be like in the late 90s under Taliban rule, with strict sharia law, when people were more or less oppressed, says Samir Abu Eid.

Student Zara has tears in her throat when she is interviewed by the news agency ANI.

- I have never felt such great helplessness, hopelessness, disappointment and despair in my life.

Now maybe 20 years of progress will be erased in just a few days, she says.

Taliban spokesman Sohail Shaheen said in an interview with CNN that girls and women should be able to get an education.

- Our policy is clear and women can continue their education from primary school to higher education, he says.

Taliban knocks on doors

According to unconfirmed information to SVT News, the Taliban have gone from door to door in Kabul looking for people who worked for foreign organizations.

Just as has happened in other cities they have taken over.

An Afghan tells SVT that the Afghans knocked on the door in the belief that he had worked at the Swedish embassy.
