On Sunday morning, Taliban militants attacked the Afghan capital, Kabul, and besieged it from several sides. In this situation, countries announced the closure of their diplomatic representations and the evacuation of their nationals, while others confirmed the continuation of opening their embassies.

An American official announced that the main members of the American crew in Kabul are working from its airport now, and confirmed that less than 50 officials in the American embassy will remain in the Afghan capital at the present time.

In turn, a NATO official said that many EU employees had moved to a safer location in Kabul.

An official in the Afghan presidential palace revealed that President Ashraf Ghani is holding emergency talks with US diplomat Zalmay Khalilzad and senior NATO officials.

Al-Jazeera correspondent said that the Danish authorities began evacuating the employees of its embassy in Kabul to the city's airport.

The Turkish embassy in Kabul posted a tweet on Twitter calling on Turkish citizens who wish to travel to or leave Afghanistan to contact the embassy officials.

The embassy circulated contact numbers, and also called on Turkish citizens in Afghanistan to stay away from the places of clashes.

In the same context, Russia announced that it does not intend to evacuate its embassy in Kabul, and the ambassador of the State of Qatar told Al Jazeera that he is closely following the situation and that the Qatari embassy in Kabul is open.

The Russian envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, considered that Washington's assessment of the capabilities of the Afghan forces that it trained was very optimistic, and described what is happening now as a sad picture of the consequences of the American presence in this country.

Commenting on the developments on the ground around Kabul, Kabulov said that although Taliban militants have entered parts of it, it is too early to talk about their ability to extend their control over the city.

He stressed that Russia does not intend to evacuate its embassy staff and that its diplomatic mission continues to operate normally.

On the other hand, Deputy Chairman of the Security and Defense Committee of the Russian Federation Council (Duma) Andrey Krasov said that the progress of the Taliban movement towards the Afghan capital has called for a meeting of the UN Security Council.

Krasov added that the situation on the ground has completely changed, and that Russia, by virtue of its military relations with the Central Asian countries through the Collective Security Treaty Organization, is concerned with recent developments, reiterating his country's call on the two parties to the conflict to negotiate to resolve the crisis, instead of bloodshed.
