To the south of the occupied West Bank, the city of Hebron in this area is facing a fierce battle, raging between the occupation and settlers on the one hand, and religious and historical monuments on the other, as Israel began taking actual steps to completely seize the Ibrahimi Mosque, which is in the middle of the old city in the city of Khalil Rahman.

Since Tuesday, August 10, the occupation has begun implementing a Judaization project inside the Ibrahimi Mosque, in order to facilitate settlers' incursions into the courtyards of the Haram.

The occupation mechanisms began implementing the Judaization scheme, which will continue for six continuous months, as it begins razing the outer courtyards of the Ibrahimi Mosque, to implement a project to build an elevator for settlers without notifying the municipality and endowments of the city of Hebron, according to the director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, Sheikh Hefzy Abu Sneina.

Sheikh Abu Sneineh said: "Last Tuesday morning, we were surprised by the presence of occupation mechanisms, under strict and intense security protection, and started excavation operations at a distance of 100 meters in the western outer square of the Ibrahimi Mosque."

He added, "The vehicles also bulldozed lands near the occupation police station, and we did not report these actions at all, but they are related to the construction of a tourist path and an electric elevator, as part of the occupation's efforts to change the landmarks of the Ibrahimi Mosque."

confiscated spaces

The director of the Ibrahimi Mosque indicated to «Emirates Today», that the Judaization project includes the establishment of corridors, squares and an electric elevator inside the Ibrahimi Mosque, to facilitate storming operations by settlers, and the confiscation of (300) square meters of the courtyards of the campus and its facilities, in addition to squatting and seizing historical facilities. Next to the mosque.

Sheikh Abu Sneina points out that the area on which the Judaizing elevator will be built belongs to the Palestinian Islamic Endowments in the city of Khalil al-Rahman, adding that “the areas of land that the occupation will seize in the Ibrahimi Mosque include the outer courtyards, the eastern courtyard and the campus garden.”

The building areas and land areas in the Ibrahimi Mosque are about five dunams. The occupation controls (63%) of its total area, while it dominates the yards of the Ibrahimi Mosque, which it divided into two parts after the massacre of the Haram. And another section for the Jews to perform their Talmudic rituals.

Withdrawal of powers

The objectives of the new Judaization project in the heart of the Old City of Hebron are not limited to confiscating the building surfaces in the Ibrahimi Mosque, seizing them, and facilitating their incursions into the most important religious monuments around the world. Through the implementation of this project, the occupation plans to withdraw building and planning powers from the Hebron Municipality inside The features of the mosque, its internal and external squares, and granting them to the civilian occupation administrations.

The coordinator of the Youth Gathering Against Settlements in Hebron, activist Issa Amro, says: “The Ibrahimi Mosque is an Islamic endowment in all its spaces and courtyards. According to the Oslo Agreement between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the occupation, the one who has the powers to manage the affairs of the campus is the Hebron municipality, not the occupation authorities.”

For this purpose, according to Amr, the occupation plans to change the features of the Haram, by seizing all the lands and areas surrounding it, and withdrawing its administration from the Hebron Municipality and the Palestinian Endowments, to impose its management on it, and to accelerate the process of Judaization and the establishment of settlement projects within the building spaces and flats within the corridors of the Ibrahimi Mosque.” .

Amr continues his speech, “After the occupation implemented the Judaic elevator project, and seized areas of the building surfaces in the Ibrahimi Mosque, it would lead to the withdrawal of powers from the Hebron municipality as well in many neighborhoods of the city.”

The coordinator of the Youth Against Settlements group points out that the implementation of the occupation’s Judaization elevator project is part of imposing a fait accompli and annexing important parts of the areas classified as (C) to Israeli control.

The Judaization project includes the construction of corridors, squares, and an electric elevator inside the Ibrahimi Mosque, to facilitate storming operations by settlers, and the confiscation of (300) square meters of the courtyards of the Haram and its facilities, in addition to seizing and seizing historical facilities next to the mosque.

Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi Mosque is an Islamic endowment in all its areas and courtyards. According to the “Oslo” agreement between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the occupation, the one who has the powers to manage the affairs of the Haram is the municipality of Hebron, not the occupation authorities.
