Canada will hold early elections for the House of Representatives on September 20

Xinhua News Agency, Ottawa, August 15 (Reporter Li Baodong) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on the 15th that the country will hold the 44th House of Representatives election ahead of schedule on September 20.

Trudeau met with Governor Simon of Canada that morning, and Simon approved his request to dissolve the parliament and start the general election.

Trudeau said at a press conference held after the meeting that the decision to advance the election was to "ensure the safety and economic prosperity of Canadians."

According to Canadian law, elections to the Federal House of Representatives are held every 4 years.

The party that wins the majority of seats in the House of Representatives will become the ruling party, and the leader of that party will become the prime minister.

Canada's 43rd House of Representatives elections will be held in October 2019, and the next general election should be in October 2023 according to normal procedures.

According to Canadian media analysis, among the 338 seats in the Federal House of Representatives, Trudeau’s Liberal Party occupies 155 seats and the Conservative Party 119 seats.

Because the Liberal Party failed to win more than half of the seats in the parliament, the Trudeau government may step down at any time due to a vote of no confidence by the opposition party.

The Canadian opposition party previously called on Trudeau not to announce early elections for "personal gain."

The opposition believes that holding a general election when the delta strain of the mutant new crown virus accelerates spread will cause the Canadian epidemic to worsen.
