• Fight against fire The UME mobilizes 191 troops to the two fires in the province of Ávila

A thousand people evacuated and more than 5,000 hectares burned this Sunday constitute the tragic balance of the

fire that started on Saturday on the N-502 road (Ávila-Córdoba), between Navalacruz and Cepeda de la Mora

.

A vehicle began to burn at 11 a.m., its flames spread across the nearby hillside and have grown to spread out over a 40-kilometer perimeter.

Numerous human resources -500- and materials from all administrations participate in the extinction work, including around 150 members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME).

The fire, declared Dangerous Level 2 by the Junta on a scale of 0 to 3, has advanced at great speed, forcing people to evacuate population centers such as Robledillo, where these days its 170 neighbors have become 300.

But residents of Riofrío, Sotalbo and the annexes of Solosancho, Sobledillo and Villaviciosa have also been evicted.

A part of them have found temporary accommodation in the "Carlos Sastre" Multiple Use Center (CUM) and the "Lienzo Norte" Congress and Exhibition Center, authorized by the Ávila City Council.

"The sierra is a disaster, it is completely burned"

One of those residents of Robledillo who is hosted at the "Carlos Sastre" Center in Ávila is Vicente Muñoz.

He was spending this holiday in town with his family, as every year, since he has a second home in this annex of Solosancho that belonged to his parents and which he had come from Madrid to enjoy a period of rest.

As he explained to Efe Muñoz, last night was "very long", since after going to bed around 1:00 in the morning,

"people began to take to the streets around 3:30 in the morning because the fire passed the mountains above "

and appeared almost at the gates of this town located less than 30 kilometers south of Ávila.

"Until we have been evicted, no one has passed through there, it has been a complete abandonment. The people of the town are the ones who have dedicated themselves to making firebreaks to try not to enter the town," recalled Muñoz, who points out that some Neighbors have been able to return and assure that the houses are "intact", although the surroundings of Robledillo are "burned".

In this sense, he laments the state of a natural environment that he is used to seeing since he was a child: "The mountains are a disaster, it is completely burned."

According to his story, the flames advanced very quickly at dawn, although he points out that "at first, the fire should have been very controllable because, it is true that a car burns, but with the temperatures we are in, we must intervene and not say that it is a car and that it does not intervene ".

"With the wind and heat, that gets out of control and gets into the mountains," he said, and later insisted that

"it was a situation that at first could have been controlled if there were means."

In his criticisms of what happened, he also adds the fact that "they do not clean" some mountains in which "they have not allowed many cattle to be brought in for years, with which the trails are closed and access to the sites is practically closed."

Also the mayor of Solosancho (Ávila), Jesús Martín, has assured that the Navalacruz fire has burned the mountain range of the town.

It is a horrible sensation. It is all black,

has described.

"They have been moments of tension, panic, anguish, but we are in good hands," he said, to underline that the fire has affected "some houses, straw bales, hay and cattle."

Martín, who hopes that the ranchers have been able to save their cattle, has warned of "the enormous ecological and environmental importance" of what has been burned.

He has reported that the fire has affected the Vetonian necropolis of Ulaca, in one of the heights of the Sierra de la Paramera.

The smoke forces to cut a second road

The smoke from the fire has forced the

AV-900

highway to be cut this Sunday

, between kilometers 7,500 and 27,500 in both directions.

As reported by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), this road has been cut in both directions by the "dust smoke" that exists in the area and that is observed with increasing clarity and proximity from the capital of Avila, where the smell The smoke is constant throughout the day, reaching the city a few fires.

The cut of this highway

is added to the one decreed hours ago on the N-502 (Ávila-Córdoba)

, between kilometers 0,000 and 36,000 in both directions, from the municipality of La Serrada.

Favorable evolution of the El Raso fire

Meanwhile, the El Raso fire, in the same province of Ávila, evolves "favorably", although it remains dangerous at level 2, as reported by the territorial delegate of the Board in Ávila, José Francisco Hernández.

In statements collected by Europa Press, Hernández pointed out that they were "extremely concerned" about its evolution because it was very close to Candeleda, as El Raso was a contiguous neighborhood to advance that had had

an "easy" resolution due to the "effectiveness of the operation ".

"I have been in contact with the mayor of Candeleda and with all prudence we can say that it is a fire that is evolving very favorably," he assured.

On Saturday, other fires in Piedralaves, Casavieja and La Parra were also controlled or extinguished.
