China News Service, Beijing, August 15 (Wen Tianxia) August 15 marks the 76th anniversary of Japan's defeat and surrender in World War II.

Japan committed numerous crimes during World War II. Now, after more than half a century of vicissitudes, have some Japanese politicians really reflected on it?

Data map: Japan enshrines the Yasukuni Shrine with Class A war criminals of World War II.

  On August 13, Japan’s Minister of Economic Rebirth Yasumi Nishimura and Minister of Defense Nobuo Kishi visited the Yasukuni Shrine that enshrines 14 Class-A war criminals of World War II.

This is the first time that a current Japanese cabinet minister visited the Yasukuni Shrine during his tenure.

  Regarding the actions of Nobuo Kishi and others, Wu Qian, a spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense, responded that the Chinese side expressed strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this, and made solemn representations to the Japanese side.

  Wu Qian pointed out that the Yasukuni Shrine is the spiritual tool and symbol of Japanese militarism in launching a war of foreign aggression. The visit of the Japanese Defense Minister to the Yasukuni Shrine once again reflects Japan's wrong attitude towards the history of aggression and its sinister intentions to challenge the post-war international order.

  Although the former war criminals have already served their sentences, their ghosts are still wandering today in the 21st century.

  The "mind" of some right-wing politicians in Japan is also reflected in history textbooks, in an attempt to allow militarism to continue to poison the next generation.

A few months ago, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology announced the results of the new high school textbook review. The new textbooks tried their best to beautify the history of aggression, claiming that the Japanese aggression had brought "civilization" and "prosperity" to Asia.

  Not only did they instill such an inverted concept into the next generation, but in order to deny war crimes, some Japanese politicians were also rude to their own media.

  In May 2021, the "Asahi Shimbun" published a report on "the phenomenon of forced conscription of comfort women in Japan during the war", which was criticized by Chief Cabinet Secretary Kato Katsunobu.

  Kato said that this report was “contrary to the facts” and also expressed the so-called concern: “The spread of reports in the international community is very problematic.”

  Less than a month later, the Japanese representative declared at the UN Human Rights Council: "The claim that the Japanese army forcibly recruited'comfort women' during World War II is a fabricated story."

Data map: In front of the Japanese Embassy in Seoul, South Korea, South Korean comfort women protested against Japanese congressmen's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.

  Japan’s series of perverse acts have been sternly refuted by the international community.

As the Chinese representative pointed out, the Japanese army used coercive, deceiving and other means to forcefully recruit "comfort women", with the number of more than 700,000, which has long been hard evidence.

  The "Katos" referred to this fallacy as "stories", and worried that these criminal evidence would spread to the international community. Didn't it justify their guilty conscience?

When can they learn from Germany's post-war reflective attitude and face the past frankly?

  What is more worthy of vigilance is that some people in Japan have recently been dissatisfied with reversing on historical issues.

In international affairs and regional issues, they even crossed the bottom line and openly criticized the situation in the Taiwan Strait.

  In April 2021, the joint statement after the US-Japan summit mentioned "the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait". This is the first time that the leaders of the two countries mentioned Taiwan in the joint statement in 52 years;

  The 2021 edition of Japan's "Defense White Paper", published in July, mentioned for the first time that "the situation in Taiwan is very important to Japan's security and international stability";

  The Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi, who "worships ghosts", has also repeatedly made false statements concerning Taiwan. In order to cooperate with the US "Indo-Pacific strategy", he encouraged Australia to be a "pawn" and attacked China on regional issues.

  Regarding the words and deeds of Japanese politicians on the Taiwan issue, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian has made it clear that the Taiwan issue involves the political basis of Sino-Japanese relations, and Japan is obliged to abide by the principles of bilateral political documents with China and to advise China on the Taiwan issue. Make a solemn promise to stop sending wrong signals to the "Taiwan independence" forces.

  These politicians need to know that Taiwan and its affiliated islands were returned to China with Japan’s unconditional surrender 76 years ago. The Taiwan issue is purely China’s internal affair; after 76 years, some people in Japan wanted to use the Taiwan issue to brush their "existence". Feeling", this kind of thinking is very dangerous.

  Today’s Japan is the right choice if it adheres to the post-war oath of “never war again” and the principle of “special defense”, and stops interfering in the regional situation; it can only stop beautifying war criminals and distorting history for the sake of the region and the world. Contributing to peace is true reflection.
