Neither of them are real winemakers.

One of them, Hans-Joachim Jobelius, has a consulting company for the healthcare sector.

The other, Edgar Lichter, is a restaurateur and consultant in the hotel industry.

A third party contributes the expert knowledge for their “Workshop for Wine” project, and he is actually a winemaker: Herbert Pies inherited his passion for grape juice and his winery in Poltersdorf on the Moselle from his parents.

And for Jobelius and Lichter he provides his know-how, grapes from his vineyards and his wine cellar.

He helps with the selection of the vineyards, with the vinification and the bottling.

Ten years ago, the two teamed up with Pies to make their dream of a small, exclusive boutique collection of Moselle wines a reality. The portfolio of the “Werkstatt für Wein” now includes nine wines, including four Rieslings, and one sparkling wine. “We wanted to make small, ambitious editions from the start,” says Lichter, “expressive character wines that reflect the location in which the grapes are and reflect the year from which they originate. ”With the success with friends, acquaintances and customers, the project has gradually grown. Last year Jobelius and Lichter filled a total of 6,500 bottles.

The 2020 Assemblage Blanc (9.50 euros) is a nice all-rounder for many occasions, but especially for eating. This stimulating, fresh Cuvée from Sauvignon Blanc, Auxerrois and Riesling combines exotic fruitiness and typical green-grassy Sauvignon notes very harmoniously and is pleasantly soft on the tongue. The 2020 Riesling Felsenterrasse from the Rosenberg site (14.50 euros), an elegant wine with typical Moselle minerality and good length, which is definitely accompanied by one or the other large plant, offers an almost sensational price-performance ratio Costs double, can keep up. The 2019 Riesling Calmont (23 euros) from the vineyard of the same name is even more impressive, because it is more full of character and complex and blessed with great minerality and harmonious fruit, which is considered the steepest in Europe.
