Flooding in the provinces of Kastamonu, Bartin and Sinop, on the Black Sea coast, was caused by intense rainfall overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday.

The terrible toll is not final: at least 27 dead.

The north of the country is hit by this new disaster just as Ankara announced that it had brought under control the fires that have been raging for two weeks in the southern coastal regions.

Streets turned into torrents

A large rescue operation is still underway.

The water level has risen up to four meters in some towns.

Streets have turned into torrents carrying cars and all kinds of debris.

According to Turkish media, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit one of the most affected regions on Friday to see the damage and provide support to the victims.

Politicians and associations are urging the government to take drastic measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that lead to global warming and increasingly frequent extreme weather episodes.

Turkey has not ratified the Paris climate agreement.
