The Syrian regime forces renewed their bombardment of neighborhoods in the city of Daraa in southern Syria, amid a suffocating siege imposed on the city and the deterioration of the humanitarian situation there.

Sources told Al-Jazeera that the Syrian regime forces bombed with mortars and tanks the besieged neighborhoods in Daraa Al-Balad, without details of losses or injuries.

And regime-affiliated media are talking about a ceasefire implemented by the regime forces - at the request of the Russian side - to allow an opportunity to complete an agreement requiring the fighters to hand over their weapons and transfer those who reject the settlement to northern Syria.

Thousands of families in the neighborhoods of Daraa Al-Balad, the camp and Al-Sad Road have been facing a suffocating siege for more than a month and a half, imposed by the regime forces and Russia, and their militias, in light of the running out of flour, diesel and water cuts, and the absence of medical points, with the continued shelling and attempts to storm the area. pic.twitter.com/oilWfsPitN

It is noteworthy that bakeries in the neighborhoods of Daraa Al-Balad, Al-Sad Road and Daraa camp closed their doors after the flour ran out due to the siege of the regime forces a month and a half ago.

The sources emphasized that the deterioration of the humanitarian situation worsened in the besieged neighborhoods in light of the water and electricity cuts.

After 3 years of an exceptional settlement under Russian auspices in Daraa, the governorate is witnessing a military escalation and a stifling siege, as some opposition fighters are still clinging to their land in the western and southern countryside, as well as in the southern part of Daraa city called “Daraa al-Balad”, while the regime controls the part. The other is called "Daraa Al Mahatta".

Daraa enjoys a special status, as it is adjacent to Jordan, which seeks to spare its territory the repercussions of the conflict, and adjacent to the occupied Golan from Israel, which fears the spread of Iranian pro-regime militias, which gave Daraa special status in completing the settlement with the guarantee of Russia.
