The tragedy in Locmariaquer, a town in the bay of Quiberon (Morbihan).
A 53-year-old man was killed in an apartment building fire Thursday morning.
The fire broke out around 8:30 am on the ground floor in the victim's apartment.
On seeing the flames and the development of smoke, neighbors immediately notified the emergency services.
These managed to prevent the fire from spreading to the rest of the building.
But the 50-year-old was found dead at home by firefighters, local media report.
A total of eleven people were evacuated.
Three were taken to hospital.
An investigation has been opened to determine what may have happened.
