- The typical case is probably that it is an unvaccinated youth who is ill and then you test the rest of the family who may have mild symptoms and they are also positive, says Per Åke Jarnheimer, acting infection control doctor in the Kalmar County Region.

During the summer, according to him, it has not been entirely uncommon to meet fully vaccinated people who have been infected with covid-19.

Statistics at the bottom

According to the Swedish Public Health Agency's statistics, which measured the number of cases from the turn of the year until the beginning of July, only 0.15 per cent of those vaccinated with two doses tested positive for covid-19.

But the figure is believed to be higher.

- The longer the time passes, the more people who come across the virus are double-vaccinated.

So the risk is greater than 0.15 percent if you say so, says Per-Åke Jarnheimer.

Both Kalmar and Kronoberg have seen a small increase in the number of infections in the past week, but are low when compared with the spread of infection nationally.

In Kronoberg, an increase has been seen among families.

- We see a certain increase, even if it is not as large as in the rest of the country.

It is quite expected that the spread of infection will increase now, when people come home from vacation and start working and hanging out with people you have not met for a while, says Hampus Hjorton, assistant infection control doctor in a press release.

Encourages fully vaccinated to test

The recommendation to test for symptoms of covid-19 also applies to fully vaccinated people, but Per-Åke Jarnheimer believes that the tendency to get tested may be lower among those who have received both doses, mainly because they often have mild symptoms.

- You should test yourself if you get symptoms.

We also know that even though you have been vaccinated, you can pass on the infection, although to a lesser extent of course, says Per-Åke Jarnheimer.
