Tunisian President Kais Saied received on Friday an American delegation carrying a message from President Joe Biden regarding the current political crisis in Tunisia, which followed the freezing of parliament and the dismissal of the government.

The White House said that the head of the delegation, Counselor Weiner, discussed with the Tunisian president the necessity of choosing a prime minister-designate to form a government.

The US delegation made it clear that Washington is looking forward to the next steps that President Qais Saeed will take, both governmental and political.

The delegation said that Biden is following the developments in Tunisia, and that the US administration is aware of the challenges facing Tunisia.

On the other hand, the Tunisian presidency clarified that Said said during the meeting that the exceptional measures under which he dismissed the government and suspended parliament’s work “fall within the framework of implementing the constitution and respond to a broad popular will, especially in light of the political, economic and social crises and rampant corruption and bribery.”

The Tunisian presidency said that Kais Saied told the American delegation that there is no cause for concern over the values of freedom, justice and democracy.

She added that President Qais Saeed warned against attempts by some to spread rumors and promote fallacies about the situation in the country.
