August 12, 2021 Foreign Minister Yair Lapid inaugurated the Israeli Liaison Office in Rabat today, during his two-day visit to Morocco, the first by an Israeli minister since 2003.

The inauguration comes less than a year after 'agreement for the normalization of bilateral relations between Israel and Morocco, reached last December with the mediation of the former US administration of Donald Trump in the context of the Abrahamic Agreements.

During the meeting yesterday with his counterpart Nasser Bourita, Lapid delivered an invitation from President Isaac Herzog to King Muhammad VI to visit Israel. "Allow me to express my sincere appreciation for Your Majesty's decision to establish full diplomatic, peaceful and friendly relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the State of Israel - wrote Herzog in the letter reported by the Israeli media - we are committed to strengthening our relationships and we hope they will further expand and flourish over time ".

During their meeting, Lapid and Bourita signed three framework agreements concerning political consultations between ministries, cooperation in the fields of culture, sports and youth policies, and air services between the two countries. "I'm sure there are at least ten more deals on the way," said Bourita.
